It helps prepare and maintain the uterine lining (endometrium) for implantation of a fertilized egg and supports early pregnancy.
• Prevention of Miscarriage: In some cases, it's used to help maintain pregnancy in women with a history of recurrent miscarriages or those at higher risk of preterm labor.
• Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): Often prescribed in combination with estrogen for women undergoing HRT, especially those who still have their uterus. Progesterone helps prevent endometrial hyperplasia (abnormal thickening of the uterine lining) that can occur with estrogen-only therapy, reducing the risk of uterine cancer.
