Product Description

Azithromycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Specifically, it binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby preventing the bacteria from producing the proteins they need to grow, multiply, and carry out essential functions. This effectively stops the bacterial growth and allows the body's immune system to clear the infection.

Uses of Azithromycin Tablets:

Azithromycin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in different parts of the body, including:

1. Respiratory Tract Infections:
   • Pneumonia: Community-acquired pneumonia.
   • Bronchitis: Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
   • Sinusitis: Acute bacterial sinusitis.
   • Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: Strep throat (as an alternative for penicillin-allergic patients).
2. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Such as cellulitis, impetigo, and other uncomplicated skin infections.
3. Ear Infections: Acute otitis media (middle ear infection), common in children.
4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs):
   • Chlamydia: Very effective for uncomplicated urethritis and cervicitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.
   • Gonorrhea: Often used in combination with other antibiotics for uncomplicated gonorrhea, due to increasing resistance.
   • Chancroid
5. Typhoid Fever (Enteric Fever): Commonly used in India for the treatment of typhoid fever.
6. Certain Eye Infections: Such as bacterial conjunctivitis.
7. Other Infections: Including some dental infections, traveler's diarrhea, and Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infections (often in HIV patients).
